PHOENIX — A windy weekend is ahead. Wind alerts are posted for most of northern Arizona through Sunday evening. Southwest winds will blast to 65 mph. We'll watch out for southwest gusts to 40 mph at times across the lower deserts. There will be areas of blowing dust and reduced visibility.
In addition to the winds, abundant sunshine will dominate all weekend. Look for Saturday valley highs in the lower to middle 90s and high-country highs in the 60s and 70s. Flagstaff will top out in the upper 60s under a mostly sunny sky.
An area of low pressure will skirt us to the north. This will continue the strong winds, bring spotty high desert showers, and significantly drop Sunday temperatures. Lower desert high temperatures will fall from the 90s, on Saturday, to the upper 80s on Sunday. Flagstaff will only muster the upper 50s, with spotty showers on Sunday afternoon.
Below average temperatures will take us into the new workweek. Not only will temperatures be held in check, it looks like we will avoid the triple-digits for the next several days.
